Never let the truth get in the way of a good story!
Mel always dreamed of writing a book that brought to the reader everything she loves about a really good novel. Connection with the characters, a plot that captivates making you promise yourself “just one more page” and most of all a depth of story that leaves the reader bereft when you close that last page.

In creating The Collective Mel always held these hopes dear for her reader. Never one to be caught up in endless descriptions or scene setting, more keen to get on with the dialogue and matter at hand her genuine desire is that she has not only created a world her readers can get totally lost in but that holds a message incredibly dear to her heart...... her wish is that it lands in yours.
Where did it all begin?

Mel has had her own Pilates Studio since the early 2000's. In that time, she has had the undeniable privilege to meet, get to know and ocassionally teach Pilates(!) to, probably thousands of women.

Each one facing their own highs and lows, fighting their own battles and every single one of them putting one foot in front of the other every day.
She swiftly noticed the level playing field created in her studio. Everyone was in their workout gear, there for the same end.
There were no assumptions, no expectations and most of all no judgement. One couldn’t tell at a glance what someone’s job was, their background or education. It was the briefest escape from those uninvited social expectations life provides.
There was, however, one common dinominator. Across the board, whether a stay at home Mum, student or CEO - the presence of self doubt and abundance of negative self talk all of the women shared was undeniable.
It was subtle at first but once Mel noticed it, a glaring consistency in every single client, bar none. She found it extraordinary.
She could see the marvel in every woman she met. Their achievements that they didn’t acknowledge, their successes, both big and small but most of all their support and love of other women and awe of those they shared time with. She decided the self degradation had to stop.
A mission was born and it became.... The Collective!

Pretty much every woman I know has their tribe. A handful of female friends that fuel them. Who they feel infinitely better leaving than they did on arrival.
They rarely all met at once but evolved into this eclectic group that have made memories and shared adventures. This means the invisible contract has been signed and no one wants to unsign it!
Jess, Kate, CC, Tiff and Izzy are no different. As their lives became intertwined they also became locked into that same beautiful, silent code that so many women share.
Some know more about others but they all know enough to come together and fill each other up like nothing else on earth... and the laughter is incredible!
The adventure starts with CC dealing with a situation sadly too many of us have shared and may have either brushed aside or been too embarrassed to progress. Sometimes, it’s not “bad enough” to even mention.
Wrong
As this “event” bubbles away in the background the girls continue with their lives as they meander and merge, obvlivious that this poison is growing in size and gathering pace.
When it finally bubbles to the surface a time comes for making choices and trusting gut reactions. You’ll be pleased to hear none of the girls disappoint. They are united and will stop at nothing to deal with the situation. They didn’t ask for it but they will certainly answer the call.

I have absolutely smashed into The Collective this last week...
BLOODY BRILLIANT!! Not sure which character I love most but I have already cast the actresses for the film!
